Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, native Sabrina Carpenter, who plays the rebellious Maya Hart on “Girl Meets World,” will perform July 25 at Solberg Airport in Readington. From a young age, Sabrina Carpenter already had a clear command on what she intended to do with her life: she wanted to sing.
The Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, native, who plays the rebellious Maya Hart on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World,” will perform in concert at the QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning in Association with PNC Bank on July 25 at Solberg Airport in Readington.
Carpenter follows in the footsteps of Disney teen sensations such as the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and R5 featuring Ross Lynch who have played at the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America. Tickets are on sale now at www.balloonfestival.com. Sabrina Carpenter will have a Meet&Greet with Child Premium ticketholders.
“We have a video of me in my kitchen. I was so young and was singing ‘God Bless America”, recalled the effervescent Carpenter. She was too little to even pronounce all the words correctly, but she knew the performance felt right. “I know a lot of people don’t know what they want to do when they’re that young, but I had a pretty good idea and my heart was pretty much set on it.”
In the years since, Carpenter, 16, has never waivered in her desire and ambition. While her talents have expanded into acting — season two of “Girl Meets World” debuted May 11 and she’ll be starring in the upcoming Disney Channel original movie “Further Adventures in Babysitting” — music remains her first love.
Her passion is evident on her recently released full-length album, “Eyes Wide Open,” which debuted at No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Hollywood Records release is an upbeat collection of uplifting, well-crafted pop songs, many of them co-written by Carpenter, and all delivered in her expressive, appealing soprano. They include “We’ll Be The Stars” and “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying.”
Carpenter collaborated with a number of producers on the project, including Brian Malouf, best known for his work with Madonna, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Meghan Trainor (“All About That Bass”) contributed two songs, “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” and “Darling, I’m a Mess.”
Carpenter’s path began in the Lehigh Valley when she started taking vocal lessons when she was in grade school from the same instructor who had taught her mother several years earlier. She later entered The Next Miley Cyrus Project singing contest, finishing third out of more than 10,000 contestants.
Guest spots in such shows as “Law & Order SVU” led to relocating to Los Angeles a few years ago. She was cast as Maya on “Girl Meets World,” a sequel to the hugely popular ’90s ABC TV series “Boy Meets World” last June.
“We’re thrilled to once again present a rising star in Sabrina Carpenter as part of our concert series,” said Festival Executive Producer Howard Freeman. “With her performance, our twice-a-day mass ascensions of 100 balloons, a great amusement area, and PlayStation’s 70-foot-by-35-foot Road to Greatness Tour where you can play new and unreleased games, our younger audience has a lot to look forward to at this year’s festival.”
