Lower Milford Township native and Disney star Sabrina Carpenter will appear at the Community Canvas 2015 Grand Finale 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at PBS Studios in Bethlehem.
Community Canvas is an art competition for area elementary school students sponsored by Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, with Lehigh Valley Art Spark and Communities in Schools. Ten children will compete. Two winners were chosen at five preliminary-round events, that have been held each month since January. For the grand finale, each child artist will receive one surprise canvas and a mystery lunchbox of art materials, and will have 45 minutes to create their artwork based on a healthy theme.
Sabrina Carpenter, who will visit pediatric patients at Lehigh Valley Hospital before the event, will sign autographs and take photos with the young artists, and also will greet fans. Artwork from all Community Canvas events will be displayed at the Children’s Hospital Art Gallery inside the Kasych Family Pavilion at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, as well as other LVHN facilities.
Also during the event there will be an “Iron Chef” style competition between local chefs using a secret healthy ingredient. The audience will vote on their favorite dish with the winning chef receiving a golden spoon. Participating chefs are Shawn Doyle, chef/owner Savory Grille; Randy Zerfass, executive chef, Lehigh Country Club; Tom Rutherford, chef/owner Thomas at the Bookstore; Peter Felton, executive chef, US Foods and Ben Forsee, chef/owner Green Mouth Juice Bar & Cafe.
Doors will open to the public at 12:30 p.m. Registration is required for the free event. Go to LVHN.ORG to register.
